galactanet | The Egg

You were on your way home when you died. It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me. And that's when you met me.

Albert Bridge Capital | Stay in the Game

This is going to be an uncharacteristic departure for me. This story is deeply personal, for our family, and for our oldest son in particular. But it is a story he's letting me tell, because it is a story he wants people to hear. My son Max was born in Detroit in 1997, he spent the next summer in Hong Kong when I was interning at Fidelity Investments, and moved to London before he was two when I accepted an offer to work for Fido there full-time.

While males of noble birth were expected to serve as part-time soldiers, the bulk of the Roman army was a professional army of commoners. Most stories of the Roman Empire describe the history of powerful men, but Legion takes a different course.

Dedoimedo | The shitshow called the mobile Internet

The main purpose of this article isn't to say: X bad, buy Y. It would actually be good if that were the outcome. No. The unfortunate conclusion is that the ENTIRE mobile network landscape is pretty much bad, and way worse than if you have the option of using cable or phone (fiber, whatever).

The year is 2023, not 2003, and Dedoimedo is sad. Bye bye.

The Guardian | Old Dads review β€” Bill Burr's angry, unfunny Netflix comedy

The comedian makes his directorial debut with a bitter misfire about three older fathers railing against political correctness

In Judd Apatow's films, characters like Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd have grappled with the transition from immaturity to responsibility. In Bill Burr's directorial debut, "Old Dads," three friends pine for a past where they could act without restraint, lamenting the influence of "wokeness" and cancel culture. As they face parenthood and job loss, they must adapt or face a lonely future, echoing Apatow's themes. Burr's script leans on tired complaints, and while there are moments of self-deprecating humor, the film often feels like a platform for outdated grievances. Jack, played by Burr, shares a similar struggle with Ari Gold from "Entourage" β€” a fear that growing up means getting closer to mortality. However, the film's limited character growth leaves it struggling to be truly entertaining, failing to make the most of the comedic potential of impotent anger.

Dedoimedo | Slimbook Executive, long-term usage report 1

Yo yo yo, here we are. It's now been roughly a month and change since I first got me hands on the lovely and sleek Slimbook Executive, my new productivity laptop running Kubuntu 22.04 LTS. The initial impression has been amazing, on all fronts. But using a machine for a day or two ain't the same as using it for a month or two. Well, in much the same fashion I did with the previous productivity machine, the Slimbook Pro2, we're gonna have a series of "combat" reports, which document the everyday usage, the niggles, the problems, all the grueling details of a super-long-term hardware & software review. Over roughly five years of non-stop usage, I wrote some fourteen articles about the Pro2, the unexpected but successful battery replacement, and we shall yet continue that saga, as the laptop lives on. Now, let us focus on the Executive and see what it does for us. Begin.
